What does a film editor do?
An editor handles the footage in post-production. Image via FrameStockFootages. Once production wraps, the producer will bring all the footage and assets to an editor or editing supervisor, who then creates a post-production workflow.
Post-production is the final stage of video creation. Once you’ve shot your footage, the finishing touches will need to be added to your film. The process can involve many individuals and teams, from sound mixers and voiceover artists to editors and colour graders.
Generally, the five steps of post-production are:
- Editing the shot footage.
- Laying in the special effects footage.
- Laying in the score and editing the sound.
- Mixing the sound (dialogue, score, Foley, ADR, etc.).
- Grading or correcting the color of the footage.
